Mrs. Lurk's Grade 3 Overview

Spelling - New unit begins each Friday with the unit test on the following Friday.
Handwriting - one workbook page is assigned daily to practice formation and spacing.
Phonics - one to two pages daily, lots of board work done with phonics.
Reading - one story per week is assigned on Friday to be read orally at home by Monday of the following week. The story is also read and discussed at school before the comprehension quiz is taken on the computer. Also required =200 page reading goal each month. Review word list daily.
English - Enhance skills with grammar and improve writing skills. Research paper assigned at 4th quarter.
Math - Memorize addition and subtraction facts to 18 for 1st quarter. Lots of board races, flash card races, and daily practice sheets. Study multiplication facts Nov - April. NOTICE: Use the link for mathmagician now in order to increase recall speed.
Religion - 1 unit weekly, written or oral quiz on Friday. All parents, grandparents, neighbors or friends of the family are welcome to join us for the Readings, Psalm Response, Petitions or Offertory when 3rd grade is assigned
Science - DASH activities as well as the Science calendar every morning. Experiments and text book assignments throughout the year. (I will ask for supplies to be brought in from home for various activities.)
Social Studies - Along with learning many interesting Social Study facts, students are required to complete a blank map with each of the 50 states by mid April. NOTICE: Use the US Map Game link now for fun practice with states' placement.
